The Illinois Pork Producers Association will hold its annual Legislative Day and Legislative Reception on March 12, in Springfield. The program will begin with registration at 10:30 a.m. in the Illinois Room at the Springfield Hilton, located on 700 E. Adams St. This year’s event will again be co-sponsored and attended by the Illinois Beef Association.

“This is an opportunity to become better acquainted with our elected officials and educate lawmakers about how we care for our animals, the environment, and our communities,” says Phil Borgic, a pork producer from Nokomis, Ill., and current IPPA president. “I would encourage all pork producers to make plans to attend this year's Legislative Day. All legislative activities such as this are paid for entirely with non-checkoff dollars. These funds come primarily from support of the IPPA membership program.”

Attendees will be briefed on legislative issues facing the General Assembly. Illinois legislators also have been invited to speak to the group. Lunch will be provided.

Producers will then head to the state Capitol building to meet with legislators individually and discuss important legislative issues. A reception at the Springfield Hilton will begin at 5:00 p.m.  This will allow producers the chance to talk to legislators and staff members in an informal setting.

“Pork producers continue to face an increasing number of issues that have an impact on the future of their farms,” says Jim Kaitschuk, IPPA executive director. “IPPA continues to be a watchdog for pork producers and champion legislative issues that are beneficial for the pork industry. Producers must be involved and express their views and concerns to their elected officials.  Legislators hear from many different groups, we must provide the pork producers' perspective to ensure a continued viable pork industry in Illinois.”

Pre-registrations are requested by March 5. All IPPA members registering by this date will receive free registration. Pre-registration fee for non-IPPA members is $10. After March 5, registration fees for all attendees are $15. For more information or to register, contact the IPPA office at (217) 529-3100 or visit
