Hormel Foods Corp. last week broke ground on a new production facility in Dubuque, Iowa. The new plant will produce microwave meals. Progressive Packaging LLC, which will be operated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hormel, will produce Hormel Compleats from the $89 million facility.

"Iowa has been at the center of feeding this country and the world for more than a century, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the people of Iowa to deliver great-tasting, nutritious meals to consumers throughout our system," says Jeffrey Ettinger, Hormel chief executive officer.

The plant is slated to be operational by late 2009, and initially will create 180 new jobs with more expected in future phases.
