Hormel Foods Corp. officials report that they opened the Idea and Innovation Center in China this week. The point is to create products geared toward consumers in China.
The 5,000-square-foot facility is located in the Baoshan District of Shanghai, which is where the company already has a processing facility. The Idea and Innovation Center will focus on product idea development, including testing and manufacturing.
"This new facility represents the future of Hormel Foods, combining local expertise, a heritage of innovation and 116 years of quality," says Jeffrey Ettinger, Hormel chief executive officer. "Our local meat experts will work closely with our U.S. research and development team as they lead this facility and guide the innovative process."
The Idea and Innovation Center will serve Hormel facilities in Beijing and Shanghai.
"As we continue to grow internationally, it is essential we adapt to changing local tastes, cultures and lifestyles," says Richard Bross, president of Hormel's international corporation. "The new Idea and Innovation Center in China will help us build our diversified product portfolio and better serve our Chinese consumers."
Hormel already had a presence in Asia, with business ventures in China, the Philippines, South Korea, Japan and Vietnam.
