Hormel Foods has been added to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, according to a Meatingplace.com report. The list, compiled for investors, represents the most sustainable companies around the world.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes track the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. The indexes provide asset managers with benchmarks to manage investment portfolios of leading companies with emphasis on sustainability.

“Making the list reflects the efforts Hormel has made to define corporate responsibility priorities in the areas of people, products, process, performance and philanthropy,” said Jeffrey Ettinger, chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer at Hormel Foods, in a news release.

Hormel’s corporate responsibility initiatives that were evaluated as part of the selection process include:

  • Creating a web-based Environmental Management System used to facilitate progress toward meeting company environmental requirements.
  • Adopting a packaging minimization initiative that included 44 projects, which reduced packaging in Hormel Foods products by 4.2 million pounds
  • The company’s effort to establish corporate responsibility standards for suppliers in addition to existing quality and safety standards.
