Some of the nation’s best barbequers will vie for $20,000 in prize money in the 17th annual Great Pork BarbeQlossal contest June 12, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds as part of the 2004 World Pork Expo.

Contestants will bring their custom-made grills and sauces to compete in the categories of whole hog, shoulder, loin and ribs. The overall Grand Champion will receive $3,000 in prize money and a smoker donated by Kingfisher Kookers of Kingfisher, OK. Prize money is paid out down to 10th place in all four categories.

Judging will begin at 11 a.m. on June 12, and wrap up at 1:30 pm. Teams from more than 17 states are expected. The public can try samples of the finger lick'n BBQ by late morning/early afternoon.

Winners will be announced after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9.
