The Grain, Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration will hold three Town Hall meetings this month to discuss the 2008 Farm Bill and the potential effects on the pork and poultry sectors. The public is invited and GIPSA will accept comments and recommendations during the meetings.

The meeting dates are Oct. 14, in Van Buren, Ark.; Oct. 16, in Ames, Iowa; and Oct. 22, in Gainesville, Ga. All meetings are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., local time. In addition, interested parties who can't attend the meetings in person connect through an audio bridge, and send questions or comments by e-mail. GIPSA will use the comments and recommendations that it collects during the listening session to help write the regulations required to implement section 11005 and 11006 of the farm bill. Attendees should be prepared to discuss specific problems, provisions and possible regulatory solutions, as well as the potential benefits and costs of any recommendations they suggest.
