If you’re looking for ways to fine-tune your operation to maximize productivity and profitability, you won’t want to miss the Professional Managers Conferences this fall.

“From swine unit managers to producer-owners to employees, this two-day conference will offer a lot of practical information that you can take back to your farm and begin applying immediately,” says Sharlotte Peterson, conference and seminars coordinator for the National Pork Board.

Developed with input from Extension specialists across the country, the Professional Managers Conference will cover:

  • Gilt pool management/introduction and control of estrus
  • Electrical pitfalls (stray voltage)
  • Biosecurity (sanitation)
  • Ventilation management
  • Employee management and training presentation
  • Troubleshooting (farrowing rate, litter size and breeding)
  • Factors affecting sow longevity
  • Animal welfare
  • Adding a local twist

The Professional Managers Conferences will be held at various locations this fall, including:

  • Dayton, Ohio (Nov. 7-8)
  • Clinton, N.C. (Nov. 8-9)
  • Memphis, Tenn. (Nov. 9-10)
  • Guymon, Okla. (Nov. 10-11)
  • Marshall, Mo. (Nov. 11-12)
  • Lansing, Mich. (Nov. 14-15)

  • Cedar Rapids, Iowa (Nov. 16-17)
  • Mankato, Minn. (Nov. 17-18)
  • Omaha, Neb. (Nov. 18-19)

Presentations at each conference site will be delivered by local & national experts, including area Extension specialists. “Following the Employee Management and Training presentation, two or three local human resources specialists will discuss their facilities programs,” adds Peterson.

In addition, the “Old Horse Tricks” session during dinner the first night will be unique to each conference location. “Here the attendees will share their best tips that might be helpful to the other producers,” Peterson says.

The two-day conference costs $100 (or $125 if you register on site the day of the conference) and includes meals. To register or for more information, log onto www.porkboard.org and click on the Professional Managers Conference link at the lower right side of the home page, or call 1-800-456-PORK.
