The Food Safety and Inspection Service has established a Food Biosecurity Action Team to work on improving security procedures to protect the U.S. food supply.

According to a FSIS news release, the team will look at the cost/benefit of a variety of potential security measures improvements. The team will
specifically look at upgrading internal surveillance and response capabilities, and strengthening scientific support for activities related to possible biological threats to the meat and poultry production system.

Karen Henderson, FSIS assistant deputy administrator, office of field
operations, will facilitate F-BAT activities as a special assistant to the
FSIS administrator.
