The Food Safety and Inspection Agency has annopunced new biosecurity guidelines for the meat industry. The objective is to provide federal- and state-inspected meat, poultry and egg establishments with ways to strengthen biosecurity, FSIS points out in a news release.

The agency will send out informational pamphlets outlining the food security guidelines to all federal and state inspected facilities and to the Inspector-in-Charge at each facility. The guidelines are voluntary and will be distributed through the already established Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points network, as well as through industry groups and university Extension services.
