2013 pre-World Pork Expo tours

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) offers two unique and interesting tour options for World Pork Expo attendees who want to experience Midwestern agriculture — and hospitality — at its finest.

The tours will take place on Monday, June 3, and Tuesday, June 4, prior to the opening of World Pork Expo on June 5. The tours were developed to provide international and domestic guests with a sampling of the diversity and importance of agriculture to Iowa, to the United States and to the world.

Attendees will have multiple opportunities to interact with agri-business representatives and farm managers, as well as other tour participants.

Tour One June 3-4: Midwest Agriculture Highlights
$300 per person by May 1, $350 per person after May 1. Price includes overnight accommodations on Tour One only.

Monday, June 3

  • Breakfast - Enjoy a hearty "Midwest" breakfast prior to departure
  • Depart from the Airport Holiday Inn
  • Kinze Manufacturing – Tour the Kinze manufacturing facility near Williamsburg, Iowa.  Kinze manufactures high quality grain planters and grain wagons for the global marketplace. www.kinze.com
  • Cinnamon Ridge Farms Along with 4,000 acres of corn and soybeans, this farm has wean-to-finish buildings, a beef operation and a Jersey dairy operation. See the inside of the hog building through a specially designed viewing room, allowing visitors to observe modern production without compromising the farm’s security measures.  You will also enjoy a “farm fresh” home cooked lunch at Cinnamon Ridge.
  • Grain Handling Facility Tour a local grain elevator
  • Dinner You will have the opportunity to interact with Midwest farmers and pork producers in a comfortable farm setting

Tuesday, June 4

  • Breakfast Enjoy a  “Midwest” breakfast
  • John Deere Harvester Visit one of the world's most modern and efficient factories. On the John Deere Harvester tour you'll see how traditional John Deere quality is built into every harvesting machine.
  • Mississippi River Tour Experience the expansive barge system used to move grain and other products down the      Mississippi.
  • Meet with the National Pork Board Meet with the staff that works to promote United States pork products both domestically and internationally. 
  • Return to Holiday Inn Airport

Tour Two Tuesday, June 4: Iowa Agriculture
$125 if registered by May 1, $150 per person after May 1

  • Breakfast – Enjoy a hearty “Midwest” breakfast prior to departure
  • Depart from the Airport Holiday Inn
  • Pioneer Hi-Bred International ─ Tour one of the world’s leading developers and suppliers of advanced plant genetics
  • Swine Genetics International (SGI) ─ This recognized boar-reproduction company offers genetics through liquid      and frozen semen
  • Tour John Deere Des Moines Works manufactures self-propelled sprayers, cotton pickers, tillage equipment, and grain drills.
  • Farm Tour Tour a local 5,000 head wean to finish pig farm in Central Iowa.
  • Time permitting – Tour a modern retail grocery store in Des Moines featuring the latest technology available.
  • Meet with the National Pork Board ─ Meet with the staff that works to promote United States pork products both domestically and internationally
  • Return to Holiday Inn Airport

Tour Prices Include: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner during the tours, admission to all three days of World Pork Expo, a shuttle to and from the Airport Holiday Inn, World Pork Expo and Jordan Creek Mall during the show.
