More than 30 organizations have joined together to ask the Environmental Protection Agency to extend the comment period for a petition that would raise the permitted ethanol-gasoline blend to 15 percent from its current level of 10 percent. Among the groups is the American Meat Institute.
The EPA ethanol petition was published in the Federal Register on April 21.
In a letter addressed to the EPA Docket Clerk, the organizations point out that the complexity and highly technical nature of the potential implications warrant a 60-day extension of the comment period.
"Granting this request will allow all interested stakeholders a more appropriate opportunity to develop useful and substantive comments for the Agency to consider. We believe it is important that all stakeholders be provided adequate review time," the letter stated.
