Schering-Plough Corporation reports that a jury in the United States District Court for the district of New Jersey has decided to award Boehringer-Ingelheim $6.905 million plus interest, based on a prior decision finding infringement of a Boehringer-Ingelheim swine vaccine patent in 2000.

In January 2000, a jury found that Schering-Plough's Prime Pac PRRS (Porcine Respiratory and Reproductive Syndrome) vaccine infringed a patent owned by Boehringer-Ingelheim Vetmedica. The vaccine was used to prevent PRRS in swine. An injunction was issued in August 2000 barring further sales of the vaccine. Schering-Plough appealed, and the verdict was affirmed by the appellate court in February 2003.
