ConAgra Foods will close its pork processing plant in Britt, Iowa, but will move the production to the company's Mason City, Iowa, facility by October, according to wire-service reports. Company officials cited a need to increase efficiency as the reason.

"We are closing our Britt plant to consolidate our boneless ham production and increase efficiency, not due to a lack of sales of products made there," said ConAgra spokeswoman Julie DeYoung.

ConAgra will begin cutting production in August, and close the doors on the Britt plant in October.

DeYoung indicated that unused space at the Mason City plant will be renovated and stocked with new equipment for expanded production.
