A recent CBS Evening News story that attempted to link a rise in antibiotic-resistant illnesses in people with the use of antibiotics in livestock and poultry production had many inaccuracies. The CBS Evening News aired two segments on antibiotic use in the livestock industry Feb. 9 and 10.

The news segments have drawn extensive criticism from livestock organizations and academia which have condemned the program for inaccuracies that it portrayed as well as its lack of balance.

Now, a coalition of animal industry groups including American Association of Swine Veterinarians, National Pork Board and National Pork Producers Council  has sent a letter to the president of CBS News.

The letter states “It was sad to see that CBS could be so reckless and one-sided, and disappointing to find that it would take such a simplistic look at such a complex issue.”
