Preliminary results from the second tender of Canada's Hog Farm Transition Program showed 43,182 sows removed from production for the next three years, according to Meatingplace.com. The report was made by the Canadian Pork Council.

The second tender dispensed $C24 million in government funds to 115 Canadian pork farmers out of 469 who had submitted bids.

The first tender, in November, took 22,777 sows out of inventory. A third tender is planned for Jan. 20, 2010, for which $C25 million in buy-out funds have been allocated.

The $75 million HFTP program is funded by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and administered by the Canadian Pork Council.
