With Easter just four weeks away, the National Pork Board is inspiring consumers with a special spring ham promotion. To help celebrate the best of the season and bring new ideas into the kitchen, NPB is encouraging consumers to get inspired with new meal ideas and ham serving tips.
“Ham's versatility makes it easy to put a personal touch on classic Easter dishes, since it pairs well with nearly any flavor,” said Pamela Johnson, NPB’s director of consumer communications. “There are plenty of possibilities and it doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of time in the kitchen.”
The NPB promotion also inspires holiday consumers with a ‘Ham-A-Day’ Giveaway, Easter recipes, free brochures, and carving videos. Ham lovers are directed to visit PorkBeInspired.com to enter between April 1 and April 20 by sharing how they will be enjoying their ham this Easter.
For more inspiration, chefs and consumers are treated to creative, new recipes. For example, Roasted Ham Saltimbocca takes flavor inspiration from a classic Saltimbocca dish, using butter, sage and wine. Adding these ingredients to a juicy roasted ham is not only savory, but aromatic, putting an unexpected twist on a traditional dish.
In addition to recipes, the website offers suggestions on appropriate side dishes to serve along with the traditional Easter ham. Roasted vegetables such as asparagus, artichokes, carrots and leeks are not only more affordable when in season, they go well with ham and provide a vibrant punch of color.
Ham leftovers are not ignored. Besides the tried and true ham sandwiches, the promotion provides new leftover ideas for weekday meals. Leftover ham and seasonal vegetables can be used to create Cured Ham and Asparagus Pizza or Asparagus Pesto with Gnocchi and Ham.
