Importing pork from regions where classical swine fever exists will become easier according to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. APHIS has issued an amendment which allows the importation of uncooked pork and pork products from regions where CSF is considered to exist. However, the uncooked pork and pork products must originate in a region free of CSF and meet certain other processing and shipping conditions.
The amendment takes effect May 2, 2008. For further information, contact Dr. Masoud A. Malik, Senior Staff Veterinarian, 4700 River Road Unit 40, Riverdale, MD 20737-1231; (301) 734-3277.
