Whether you’re in the market for seedstock or want to check out some of the young pork leaders who will direct pork industry in the future, the 2012 World Pork Expo (WPX) has a special opportunity for you.
Stop by the swine barn on the Iowa State Fairgrounds and you will see one of the top youth swine shows — the WPX Junior National. Exhibitors from across the country will bring out their best crossbred barrows on Wednesday, June 6. The junior show will feature purebred gilts on Thursday, June 7. Rounding out the youth event during WPX will be judging contests and Youth PQA Plus training. The National Swine Registry (NSR) oversees the youth swine shows. You can find more information on it here.
Starting Friday morning, June 8, WPX attendees can view open-class swine shows, including both purebred and crossbred classes. Breeding stock sales will provide opportunities to purchase some of the nation’s top genetics. The sales will take place on Saturday, June 9, from 8 a.m. until they are completed, which is estimated to occur around Noontime.
Throughout the 2.5 days of WPX, NSR also will present America’s Best Genetics Alley, which will be on display in the Cattle Barn. It will showcase prominent purebred genetic resources, including seedstock suppliers, boar semen companies and exporting firms that serve as a worldwide resource for production systems of any scale.
