A trailer-tractor on Interstate 95 north of Fayetteville, North Caroline overturned. Of the 180 hogs inside the trailer, about 30 were killed. Following the accident, a few hogs escaped the vehicle, but were quickly retrieved.

The driver, whose name was not available, was transporting the hogs from Prestage Farms Inc. in Clinton to the Smithfield Co. Inc. packaging plant in Tarheel, reported Trooper D.A. Lindsay to the Fayetteville Observer. The driver, who was uninjured, did not work for Prestage Farms but was employed by a trucking company.

The accident choked traffic on Interstate 95 for the next hour and a half while the damage was cleaned up.
