Swine expert Timothy Snider joins University of Minnesota faculty

Timothy Snider, D.V.M., M.P.H., has joined the University of Minnesota as an instructor at the College of Veterinary Medicine. His focus will be on the delivery of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and post-DVM training.

Snider specializes in swine medicine and has experience as both a private practitioner and a staff veterinarian for large swine production systems, food companies and international swine breeding stock companies. He has also served as a health assurance veterinarian focused on instituting and maintaining effective biosurveillance programs and early detection of disease.

Most recently, he was lead veterinarian for TOPIGS USA in Ontario, Canada. For five years he owned and operated Snider Veterinary Services in Canada where he managed swine health and production for 35,000-sow operations. Snider was also the accredited veterinarian for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency handling the export of pigs from Canada to the United States.

Snider received his Master of Public Health degree in 2013 from the University of Minnesota and from 2011-13 he completed his residency at the U of M’s Center for Animal Health and Food Safety. He received his D.V.M. from the University of Guelph, Ontario Veterinary College.

Also in Canada, Snider served as veterinarian for Maple Leaf Foods-Elite Swine Inc., Cotswald Canada Inc., and Heartland Swine Health Services.

Results of his research been published in The Canadian Veterinary Journal and Avian Diseases.
