A Pork Quality Assurance (PQA) Plus Training session for first-time advisors is scheduled for Oct. 18 in Mankato, Minn. Interested individuals must complete an application form to demonstrate they qualify for PQA Plus Advisor Training. The application deadline is Oct. 4.
The training will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Minnesota Pork Board (MPB) Office, 151 Saint Andrews Court, Suite 810 in Mankato. There is no cost for the training.
The role of the PQA Plus Advisor is to present the PQA Plus educational component to individuals who need certification and to do site assessments. The MPB is working to expand its network of PQA Plus Advisors, including areas of the state where there are fewer hog farmers but a need for PQA Plus Advisors.
Nearly all packers require that individuals who provide daily care to pigs, such as owners, managers and employees, be PQA Plus certified and have completed a site assessment as a condition for the sale of their hogs.
To download the application, go to www.mnpork.com and select the Farmer Resources tab or call the Minnesota Pork Board office at (507) 345-8814 to request that an application be mailed.
