More than 6,000 bloated pig carcasses have been pulled from a Chinese river, igniting a firestorm of public and media scrutiny in China and across the globe.
According to CNN, a local farmer has admitted to dumping the animals into the Huangpu River, which supplies drinking in Shanghai, China’s financial capital. Officials have attempted to reassure nervous citizens that the water is safe to drink, but public doubt rages on.
Initial reports indicated the officials found 2,000 carcasses, but these numbers have quickly increased after more have come to the surface. The current number stands at 6,600. However, officials expect to find more.
