Kansas State University’s Dr. Bob Hines Kansas Youth Swine Classic will be held Friday and Saturday, July 13-14 at the Riley County Fairgrounds in Manhattan.
The event, which includes several showmanship divisions and a photography contest, is designed to be educational as well as a competition, said Joel DeRouchey, livestock specialist with K-State Research and Extension. It is open to all Kansas youth, ages 7 through 18 as of Jan. 1, 2012.
“Showcasing Your Industry” will be presented by Jodi Oleen, director of industry relations with the Kansas Pork Association. The presentation will feature information on resources, careers and recent pork industry news, plus ways to connect with the public regarding farms and farming.
Another presentation, “What’s in Your Pig Feed?” will improve participants’ understanding of ingredients used in swine rations.
Entry forms are due by July 1. More information and full schedule of events for the Dr. Bob Hines Kansas Youth Swine Classic, including a brochure and registration form, is available at www.ksuswine.org or by calling 785-532-2280.
