For many families, it’s not Easter unless there’s ham on the table. From show-stopping centerpieces to side dishes, the National Pork Board’s (NPB) pork checkoff is serving up new ham recipes, along with a ‘Ham-a-Day’ giveaway, to inspire effortlessly elegant celebrations.

“Pork’s brand position is all about inspiration,” says Pamela Johnson, director of consumer communications for NPB. “This time of year, people are looking for new cooking ideas that capture the fresh flavors of spring, especially with a classic like the Easter ham.”

Brunch remains a popular entertaining trend that’s ideal for showcasing ham, Johnson adds. The pork checkoff is working with traditional media outlets, bloggers and  social media to offer a taste of the possibilities, including:

Thyme-Basted Ham with Roasted Grapes Roasted green and red grapes add a sweet, juicy twist to this ham, which takes less than 20 minutes to prepare.

Ham, Bacon and Caramelized Onion Tart This savory tart balances the flavors of savory ham, sweet onions, fresh asparagus and a rich egg base.

Ham and Peas with Mint and Tarragon. This simple side dish provides a pop of bright color and a dash of seasonal flavor.

Ample leftovers offer even more options to enjoy ham for days after the occasion. “The pork checkoff is encouraging home cooks to take a new twist on Easter ham leftovers with ham and brie baguettes; ham, cheddar and chutney quesadillas; and a ham reuben,” says Johnson, who adds that ham remains America’s most popular lunchmeat, amounting to 16 percent of all sandwiches eaten at home.
