Farrow-to-finish margins dropped $11.46 per head last week to $75.63, according to the Sterling Pork Profit Tracker. Lean hogs were down more than $3 to $113.53, compared to $116.68 the previous week and $129.38 at this time last month.
Pork packer margins dropped last week to negative $2.73 per head, compared to negative $5.16 the previous week. The pork cutout value was $115.41, compared to $117.35 the previous week.
Cattle feeding margins climbed higher last week, finishing the week ending May 3 $16.79 per head higher than the previous week, according to the Sterling Beef Profit Tracker. Over the course of the last year, feeding margins have made a $287.61 swing, from negative $91.11 at this time one year ago to $196.50 last week.
Fed cattle were up $1.63 last week to $148.63 per hundredweight. Last month, fed cattle were above $150 per hundredweight, but last year this time, fed cattle prices were around $128. Last week, feeder steers averaged $173.33, compared to $181.07 per hundredweight the previous week and $177.21 one month ago. Compared to this time last year, feeder steers are more than $44 per hundredweight higher. Feed costs were down nearly $7.80 and total costs were $83.98 lower compared to the previous week.
Packer margins dipped last week to $16.67 per head compared to $23.09 per head the previous week. The beef cutout value was down $0.14 to $229.02.
