The New Standard Group, with offices in South Dakota and Manitoba, has been selected by Maple Leaf Foods, Canada’s largest pork producer, to re-design and equip all of its gestation barns. This will be an ongoing project as Maple Leaf is committed to converting all stall barns to large group pens.

New Standard will supply Nedap electronic sow feeding (ESF) equipment.   New Standard Group includes New Standard Ag (Canada) and New Standard US.

“We have designed over 25 successful barns in North America and Australia,” says Jeff Morten. “In fact, one of New Standard's owners is originally from the Netherlands and has been through the ‘housing evolution’ once before.”

In addition to a new 5,500-sow group-housing barn in Nebraska, New Standard US has an 1,100-sow barn near Brookings, SD that has been in operation for several years.

“Maple Leaf is the largest producer in Canada,” says Morten. “Needless to say, there are many suppliers of ESF equipment and we are proud this company chose us after years of consideration.”
