A southwestern Missouri couple has been awarded $1.1 million in a settlement of a hog operation odor lawsuit, reports the Kansas City Star. The couple, Ed and Ruth McEowen, live approximately 1,000 feet from a hog operation owned by Doug Mullings. The operation is located near Stockton Lake.
According to the Star’s report, the lawsuit claimed that one of the barns on the farm was built without a construction permit, which violates Missouri Department of Natural Resources regulations. The lawsuit claimed hog waste also was present in a creek that runs on the McEowen property.
Also named in the lawsuit were the Missouri Farmers Association, North View Swine Company, Tri-County Swine and the Missouri Farm Bureau.
