The ailing economy and tight consumer budgets has Spam — Hormel Foods' infamous canned meat product — tallying big sales. Now, the meat packer/processor is promoting Spam's benefits as a way to battle cost-conscious mealtime boredom.

Hormel has rolled out a new ad campaign for its iconic branded product with the slogan "Break the Monotony."

The campaign includes varius 30-second television spots, one of which features a classroom full of eggs wearily responding to a teacher's roll call until a can of Spam enters the room dancing to disco music. The new Spam TV ads will air in 47 markets through mid-October, according to the Associated Press.

The full campaign includes print ads scheduled for magazines  such as People and Better Homes & Gardens.  Hormel also has revamped its Spam Web site to include hundreds of recipes, and a simulated cooking game that challenges visitors to prepare recipes such as Hearty Spam Breakfast Skillet.
