Smithfield Foods has launched a new business unit that will offer the company’s specialty gourmet foods in the corporate gifts and incentives market.

 , a division of Smithfield Specialty Foods Group, will offer selections from more than 200 existing gourmet food products, including the company’s signature ham and other pork products, beef, fish, poultry, peanuts and specialty nuts, and a line of sweets, desserts and chocolate.

            “This is a natural niche for us because we can offer corporate clients a wide variety of the very highest-quality, best-tasting specialty gourmet foods as gift ideas,” says Dan Vorland, director of corporate sales for the new division.

   will market to corporate buyers largely through its Web site, trade show attendance, national business publications and direct mail, according to Vorland.

            The company expects its gift card-greeting card program to be particularly attractive. Vorland notes that gift cards have become attractive as corporate gifts and employee motivational tools.
