After being up 3.6 percent in 2008, U.S.  meat and poultry production is expected to be down 1.1 percent in 2009. USDA is forecasting an across-the-board decline in meat production next year.  The agency expects 2009 pork production to be down 1.6 percent, beef production to be down 0.2 percent, broiler production to be off 1.1 percent and turkey production to be 2.4 percent lower than in 2008.  If this happens, it will be the first year since 1973 that production of each of these four meats has been down.
