Ultrasound specialist ECM has developed a new scanner model that meets specific requirements set forth by pork producers and veterinarians. The company’s Virtual Scan provides the industry with a product of excellence and affordability for use on any size farm, say company officials.
The scanner is lightweight — weighing only 1 pound — and is equipped with an internal, five-hour battery and 5-MHz sector probe. The device is extremely easy to operate; just press the “on” button and instantly scan and read with 100 percent accuracy, according to the company.
Compact and cordless, the Virtual Scan can be used in any pen or barn configuration, including tight, narrow, hard-to-reach stalls. Ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in the operator’s hand, the screen is well-positioned to be visible for quick reading. The “V-Scan” is easy to clean using a damp towel.
Pregnancy checking can be performed as early as 21 days following insemination. This makes it possible to re-inseminate an unbred sow without wasting an additional heat cycle, say company officials.
