Now, you will use fewer bottles to vaccinate pigs and breeding herds against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus with the availability of 100-dose units of Ingelvac PRRS MLV from Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. The 100-dose modified-live virus vaccine, to be rehydrated with 200 mL of provided liquid diluent, makes it convenient for producers and veterinarians to vaccinate more animals per bottle.

Ingelvac PRRS MLV is recommended for use in healthy, susceptible pigs, sows and gilts as an aid in reducing the disease associated with the PRRS virus, both the reproductive and respiratory forms.

“To control the respiratory form of the disease, Ingelvac PRRS MLV can be administered to growing/fi nishing pigs at 3 weeks of age or older,” according to Reid Philips, DVM, PRRS technical manager for BIVI. “To protect the breeding herd from both reproductive and respiratory forms, the vaccine can be administered to pregnant or non-pregnant sows or gilts every three to four months as part of a farm’s PRRS management program.”

Philips notes that using vaccine is just one component of a comprehensive control program that pork producers can implement in their systems to most effectively manage PRRS infections.

“Ingelvac PRRS vaccines have been effectively used for 18 years to reduce the impact of the disease in PRRS-positive flows. The new 100- dose units add to the convenience of using the vaccine, especially in larger systems.” The vaccine also is available in 10- and 50- dose bottles.
