PrairieFresh Premium Pork has a new product line of seasoned, fresh pork products that includes three different fresh pork cuts and eight seasonings.

According to David Eaheart, marketing director for Seaboard Farms, the company plans to market the new seasoned products within the existing PrairieFresh line, mostly in the Southwestern and Western United States. The company is still in the early phases of the marketing program.

Right now, Seaboard is working with retailers to market the product through private labels. “We’re looking for retailers who want to build their store brand, have a high-quality product and who can handle a high volume,” says Eaheart.

The meat case is one thing that draws consumers to a grocery store. Adding the seasoned pork product line would provide retailers with high-quality, fresh products that provide fairly high profits for grocery stores, notes Eaheart.

“We’ve determined that seasoned, fresh meat products appeal to several consumer segments,” he explains. Among them, he cites:

  • Baby boomers who want more flavor as they age.
  • Generations X and Y, who have experienced more diversity, so they expect more flavor from their food.
  • The time-starved consumer with a family, who wants to cook and do something special, but who doesn’t know how or doesn’t have the time to do it.

This new line of products appeals to all of those consumer groups because they’re already seasoned and easy to use. Consumers just put them on the grill or in the oven and cook them to 160°F.

The new line of PrairieFresh seasoned pork products include Peppercorn Extra Lean Pork Tenderloin, Teriyaki Extra Lean Pork Tenderloin, Honey Mustard Extra Lean Pork Loin Filet, Mesquite BBQ Flavor Extra Lean Pork Loin Filet, Lemon Garlic Extra Lean Pork Loin Filet, Onion Garlic Pork Shoulder Roast, Roast Flavor Pork Shoulder Roast and Italian Style Pork Shoulder Roast.
