Some pork producers have tried their hand at feeding distillers’ dried grains with solubles, but there’s room for greater adoption. Currently, 85 percent to 90 percent of all DDGS fed to hogs is mixed into grow/finish diets, points out Jerry Shurson, University of Minnesota swine nutritionist. Sow diets make up 5 percent to 10 percent of the DDGS amounts fed today. The balance, less than 5 percent, is being fed in the late-nursery phase.
