To assure consumers they are purchasing the safest product possible, 11,596 pork producers have become certified in Pork Quality Assurance (PQA) Plus, a three-year certification program that provides a workable, credible and affordable solution to assure food safety and animal care.

“In today’s world, most people don’t really want to know the details of my job. They just want to know that the pork I produce is safe and that the pigs are humanely cared for,” said Tim Bierman, a Larrabee, Iowa, pork producer and member of the National Pork Board who attended PQA Plus training and received certification in October 2007.

“While it used to be enough for me to do the right thing, today it’s important that I prove that I do the right thing,” Bierman said.
