The Olympics might be over, but Michael Phelps’ legacy will be long-lasting. Along with his eight gold medals, it’s worth noting his dietary prowess. The U.S. Olympic swimming sensation consumes up to 12,000 calories per day.

As Phelps, 23, reports:  “Eat, sleep and swim. That’s about all I do.” He starts his day with three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise. Then he has two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes. For lunch he eats a pound of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches with mayo on white bread. For dinner he eats another pound of pasta and an entire pizza.

It would be safe to say that vegans and vegetarian groups won’t be scrambling for his future endorsements — not that he needs to worry about lining up any additional endorsements.
