The U.S. Pork Center of Excellence, in cooperation with several universities and industry organizations, has launched PIG Opportunities. This is a new Web site that provides pork industry career insight and connections. It is part of the Pork Information Gateway Web site, found at www.porkgateway.com.

“PIG Opportunities is designed to encourage individuals to pursue a career in the pork industry,” says David Meisinger, the center’s executive director. “This program will provide one location for individuals from around the United States to learn about colleges and universities offering swine science courses, careers in the pork industry and internships.”

The site features four primary components:

1. Careers in Pork: This is a list of possible careers in the pork industry, including the experience needed, skill requirements and the job’s duties.

2. The Community College and the SwineScienceFour-YearCollege and Institutions Section: This provides lists of educational institutions offering swine science courses within their curriculum.

3. The Internship Section: Offers a list of current internships available in the U.S. pork industry.

4. Sharing Section: Employers, universities and community colleges are invited to share the opportunities that they have available in the pork industry. This service is free of charge in PIG Opportunities by contacting Sarah Beaman at sbbeaman@iastate.edu.
