A nationwide survey shows that in its first week, USDA's “MyPyramid,” 40 percent of Americans or 87 million adults have seen the new food pyramid. Most of those consumers believe the design is equal to or better than the previous pyramid released in 1992.
However, awareness of MyPyramid varies widely. For instance, minorities, consumers under the age of 30, and those earning less than $75,000 annually are less likely than others to have seen the new design. The big question of course is whether U.S. consumers will pay attention to the new pyramids or any other nutritional advice when making food choices.
