Does the United States produce the lowest cost pork? That's the answer that Iowa State University's department of economics researchers wanted to find out. They collected cost of production data for farrow-to-finish operations in selected "major" pork producing countries and regions. The amount is based on cost of production per hundredweight in 1995. Naturally, feed grain, interest rates and building expenses and much more have influenced the outcome since 1995 – much of it has come in the United State's favor.
