2007 World Pork Expo Events & Activities

Here's a look at the many events and activities that you will find a this year's World Pork Expo, June 7-9, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa. WPX is brought to you by the National Pork Producers Council.

World Pork Expo Trade Show

Thursday and Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. - noon
Location: Varied Industries Building, Cattle Barn, Outdoors (southwest of Varied Industries Building)

At the world's largest pork-specific trade show, a wide array of pork industry products and services will be offered by some 500 exhibitors. View exhibitor lists here.

World Pork Expo Marketing Information Center

Thursday and Friday: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Location: Varied Industries Building Meeting Room C

The Marketing Information Center offers producers the opportunity to learn about industry trends and outlooks that impact their bottom line.

World Pork Expo Employee Care Center

Thursday: 9 to 11 a.m.
Location: Varied Industries Building Meeting Room B

Learn about the ins-and-outs of working with your employees through these new informative seminars. Admission to the Employee Care Center is free with World Pork Expo admission.

World Pork Expo Environmental Information Center

Thursday: 1 to 4:30 p.m.
Location: Varied Industries Building Meeting Room B

The World Pork Expo Environmental Information Center will provide information on capturing the crop nutrient value of production byproducts while  bringing together experts to talk about what it takes to navigate the ever-growing maze of environmental reporting requirements.

Pork Industry Career Center

Thursday: 1 to 4 p.m.
Friday: 9 a.m. to noon
Location: Varied Industries Building, Meeting Room D

Sponsored by National Hog Farmer Magazine, the World Pork Expo Career Center will help employees find quality job opportunities with employers who need good help. College representatives will also be on hand to talk with those interested in continuing their education. Admission to the Job Fair and Career Center is included free with World Pork Expo admission.

ID Alley

Thursday and Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. - noon
Location: Cattle Barn

The ID Alley will feature the latest in identification practices and products to help producers get and stay ahead of the curve in the issues surrounding traceability and food safety.

World Pork Expo Educational Seminars

Thursday and Friday: 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Location: Cattle Barn Arena

Producer education seminars are some of the best-attended events at the World Pork Expo. Hear it straight from the experts on topics including animal health and best-practice production. View the agenda here.

World Pork Open Clay Target Championship

Thursday, beginning at noon
Location: New Pioneer Gun Club, Waukee, Iowa

A five-person team shoot-out which has become a “don’t-miss” World Pork Expo event. World Pork Open 2007 Golf Outing

Friday, June 8; 8:30 a.m. registration and free range balls, 9:30 a.m. shotgun start
Location: Briarwood Golf Course, Ankeny, Iowa

A World Pork Expo favorite! Reservations are being accepted for the first 144 golfers. Cost is a $125 contribution per golfer. Sign up a foursome or register individually. Registration forms are available here.

Music Fest

Friday: 3 to 8 p.m.
Location: Grand Concourse

Pork producers are encouraged to make a point of staying around for Friday evening’s hog roast, featuring musical entertainment presented street-dance style on the Grand Concourse. Entertainers will include Billy Joe Royal, whose hits include “Down in the Boondocks” and “Cherry Hill Park,” and ‘60s sensations the Buckinghams, with hits like “Kind of a Drag” and “Hey, Baby, They’re Playin’ Our Song.”

World Pork Expo Farm Toy Show and Sale

Thursday and Friday: 8 am to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to noon

Featuring the fourth edition World Pork Expo commemorative toy tractor

The National Farm Toy Museum, Dyersville, Iowa, will hold the Third Annual World Pork Expo Farm Toy Show and Sale in the Cattle Barn.

Check out more than 100 tables of exhibitors selling and displaying farm toys and memorabilia organized by the National Farm Toy Museum. Skilled artisans will display craftsmanship of the farm toy layouts on display in the building and talk one on one with designers. Get tips and advice on how to get started building your own custom farm layout.

Don’t miss the chance to purchase the fourth in the series of World Pork Expo commemorative tractors.

The Great Pork BarbeQlossal™

Saturday, Judging starts at 11 a.m. Prizes awarded at 3:30 p.m.
Location: Fairgrounds Midway

The nation's best bar-b-quers will vie for a share of $37,500 in cash prizes and national competition points in this World Pork Expo tradition. Contestants will bring their custom-made grills and sauces to compete in the categories of whole hog, ribs, loin and shoulder, and showmanship.

PigCasso™ Art Show

Thursday and Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. - noon
Location: Cattle Barn, Main Entrance

Pig images in a variety of media will be on display. in this unique traditional show, where artists from around the country vie for cash prizes and ribbons Expo attendees may vote for their favorite artwork in the Audience's Choice Award.

Pig Races

Thursday and Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. - noon
Location: Northeast Corner, Cattle Barn

The excitement and fun of live racing can be found at Expo. Racing pigs will hoof around a sawdust track at blazing speeds. It will be fun for the entire family as you participate in the pageantry of the Pig Races.

Lunch at the Big Grill

There is such a thing as a free lunch when you visit the World Pork Expo “Big Grill.” Menu to be announced.

Cruisin' with the Hogs - Iron Warriors

Saturday, approx 10 a.m.
Location: Grand Concourse

Don't miss the fun as 100 Harley Davidson motorcycles arrive at the fairgrounds and parade up the grand concourse for judging and awards. Cruisin' with the Hogs is a fundraiser for the Iron Warriors of Central Iowa, a group made up of active duty and retired police officers, fire fighters and other public saftey officers. The cruise begins at 9 a.m. and takes a 60-mile scenic trip before arriving at World Pork Expo. Registration materials available soon.

2007 World Pork Expo Swine Show and Sale

Tuesday through Saturday
Location: Swine Barn and Sheep Barn

National Swine Registry’s 2007 World Pork Expo Show and Sale features the nation’s top producers showing purebred Berkshire, Chester White, Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, Poland China, Spotted or Yorkshire hogs. For details, registration information and schedules, visit the National Swine Web site.

2007 World Pork Expo Junior National Swine Show

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Location: Swine Barn

One of the top youth shows in the nation, the Junior National Swine Show draws young showmen from across the country. Both swine and showmanship awards are given. For more information and schedules, visit the Junior National Swine Association Web site.
