Pork hailing from New Zealand by the NZ Pork company will take on modified packaging for country of origin labelling.
NZ Pork will carry labels and carry the PigCare accreditation program label. PigCare means the products are sourced from pigs that are born and raised in New Zealand and farmed utilizing approved methods.
“Based on our research, New Zealanders would be very surprised to learn how high the levels of imported food products are in some popular categories,” NZ Pork chairman Ian Carter told Business Day.
While New Zealand investigated mandatory COOL in 2005, the government decided it would be too costly and complicated for New Zealand manufacturers.
