December weather often brings ice and snow to the Midwest, but Mother Nature had different plans in store this year. A powerful system brought spring-like storms to a stretch from Arkansas to Ohio, delivering everything from tornadoes to hail.
On its Facebook page, Stateler Family Farms showed some of the damage reported in neighboring hog sites in Ohio.
Though several barns were destroyed by straight-line winds, no hogs or pigs were lost in the storm initially. However, more than 20 animals did have to be euthanized.
“McComb Fire Dept., neighbors and friends arrived to help and shortly after sunrise this morning all the pigs had safely been moved to a barn near Bowling Green,” Stateler Farms reported on Dec. 23.
Considering the storms killed at least 18 people in the region, the outcome could have been much different.
