Bacon lovers took over Twitter after the World Health Organization said processed meat, including bacon, was likely a cause of cancer. Thanks to the rise of the hashtag #FreeBacon, celebrities, politicians, consumers and pig farmers alike were able to unite against the announcement.
Thomas Titus, an Illinois pig farmer and one of the USFRA’s “Faces of Farming and Ranching’ winners, was among those tweeting against the WHO’s report. His tweet put a #RealPigFarming spin on the #FreeBacon campaign.
“At our house no one passes up #FreeBacon!” he tweeted.
#RealPigFarming is a social media campaign sponsored by the National Pork Board. It encourages the nation’s pork producers to share photos and experiences online using the hashtag, #RealPigFarming. Click here for more information.
