Life isn’t always a beach on the coasts, and a new study shows that when it comes to stressed-out states, it’s better to in the nation’s heartland.  

North Dakota was the least-stressed state in the country, followed by Iowa and South Dakota.

As a general rule of thumb, researchers noticed states closer to the water tend to be more stressed than states farther away from the water.  There are some exceptions to this rule, such as Colorado, but for the most part, so-called “fly-over” states are the most relaxed.
