DES MOINES, Iowa – On Thursday, the World Pork Expo once again made its way into the record books with the debut of the world’s largest pork burger.

Of course, for a mammoth-sized burger, it takes a crew of four men to put the 345-pound patty onto its specially-prepared bun. And even then, the process required teamwork and precision. The hard-worked paid off, and sponsors Hog Slat, Inc. and NPPC were on-hand to help celebrate the monumental task pulled off by Vinny’s BBQ.

While expo-goers were able to sample the burger, a local community organize will receive the vast majority of the burger. It will be used to help feed children served by the Youth Emergency Services and Shelter in Des Moines.

Here are some interesting facts about the world’s largest pork burger:

  • The patty is made from 290 pounds of ground pork, 15 pounds of barbecue rub seasoning and a 40 pound bun.
  • To cook the patty, the meat was cooked in a large, enclosed gas grill at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for around eight hours.
The bun was baked and prepared in a special pan by Hy-Vee in Ankeny, Iowa.
  • The previous record was 260 pounds of pork prepared on a 40-pound bun, set at the 2012 World Pork Expo.
